Mid Cheshire - Community Art Project

I have had the pleasure of working with a local School the past few months creating a mosaic installation for Altrincham Interchange, Cheshire.

This is in partnership with Mid Cheshire Railway and Inch Arts, a community based Art hub in the the centre of Altrincham. The installation consists of 5 Large Scale Mosaic pigeons will go on permanent display Summer 2022.

The project is part of a Covid recovery plan that has been designed for the children to reflect on their experiences of lockdown and provide them with an opportunity to work together with friends in a safe space where they can reflect, chat and have a good time doing something creative.

The children completed a dig on a local farm tip towards the end of 2021 and found an array of broken ceramic ware and glass pieces on site to complete small decorative sections on each bird.

The three larger birds also feature hand carved ceramic tiles featuring the Altrincham motto; ALTRINCHAM EN AVANT, depictions of the children, the famous market hall window and Clock tower amongst other imagery. These pieces have been surfaced using a rich and vibrant cobalt blue and clear glaze.

We cant wait to share the final pieces with you very soon.
